The Professional Haircare Market SA 2010 report found that the “ethnic African segment is the single largest consumer group and this market has the most potential”. Black consumers spend up to six times more than their white counterparts when it comes to haircare. It’s a fact: black haircare is big business.
Black women prefer more variety in their haircare, going from braids to weaves, to chemical treatments, to other drastic style changes. The haircare variety demanded by African hair is more than that required for Caucasian hair. Though it goes without saying, that until recently – the business market for black hair was not always blooming. Many haircare providers had to face various challenges in growing their businesses.
